Tommaso Calabro is thrilled to announce its first participation to Tefaf Maastricht 2024, Showcase section, with a selection of works by the Italian Surrealists Leonor Fini (1907-1996), Stanislao Lepri (1905-1980) and Fabrizio Clerici (1913-1993).
Simultaneously with the celebration of the centennial of Surrealism, the gallery continues unveiling lesser-known aspects of this movement by presenting a selection of paintings and works on paper by these three artists, who never signed the Manifesto, but were close to the movement in terms of iconographies, themes and painting techniques.
Bound by a life-long friendship, Fini, Lepri and Clerici were polymaths, moving from painting and illustration to theatre and costume design. They explored the modern themes of sexuality, death, metaphysics, anxiety, unconscious and mythology, with a pictorial style rooted in the realm of Old Masters painting.
